The history of Würzburg goes back to the year 1000 BC when a Celtic stronghold was built atop the Marienberg. Marienberg Fortress is the symbol of the city. Everywhere such renowned artists as Riemenschneider, Neumann and Tiepolo have left behind their masterworks.
Also well worth seeing is the Cathedral of St. Kilian – Germany's fourth-largest Romanesque church. Art and culture have always been an integral part of life in Würzburg. Especially rich is the range of classical concerts, such as the Mozart Festival.
Additionally, Würzburg is known as the „Gateway to the Romantic Road“. It is the metropolis of sunny Franconia where it flanks the River Main, a landscape whose vineyards are famous throughout the world. And it is Franconian wine that, in perfect harmony with Baroque splendor, always makes a visit to Würzburg a memorable experience.
The University of Würzburg was founded in 1402 and is one of the oldest Universities in Germany with a very good reputation in the scientific community.
The weather in July is normally mild or warm with temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees Celcius. Rainfall is moderate and distributed quite evenly throughout the whole year.
You can get there by plane via Frankfurt International Airport and then continue by train (ICE or IC). It will take about 1 hour by train from Frankfurt to Würzburg. You can also reach Würzburg by car (A3/A7). The ISSBD Congress 2008 in Würzburg will be a satellite congress of the world psychology congress in Berlin. You can fly into Frankfurt and then use the train to Würzburg and head on by train to Berlin.
