Chairs: Karina Weichold ( Germany ), Deepali Sharma ( India ), and Zena R. Mello ( USA )

The Young Scholars’ Initiative (YSI) encourages young scholars to not only discuss their research work with each other but also discuss present and future possibilities of their research with scientists who have been long established in the area of human development and its applied fields. The aim of this format is to encourage networking among young scientists in the early stages of their academic careers.

The initiative aims at fostering participation from young scholars involved in research across the life span: from neonatal period to old age. While not necessarily limiting to, we would especially like to invite those young scholars who use cross-cultural approaches or plan to do so. Participants will explore theoretical, empirical, and applied issues. .

Young scholars interested in taking part in the YSI 2008 should send a 250 word abstract on their current or proposed research project. It is also recommended that along with the abstract, two to three questions are submitted that will be addressed by experts.
Deadline for submitting abstracts via the conference submission webpage to the YSI is October, 31, 2007 .

For questions concerning the YSI, please contact: deepali_sharma75@hotmail.com or Karina.weichold@uni-jena.de

Participants will be grouped according to research interest and will be lead by an expert in the field plus a young scholar as moderator. The YSI is supported by the organizer of the conference, Prof. Wolfgang Schneider, and the president of the ISSBD, Prof. Anne Petersen.

We hope to see you at the YSI!
