Abstract submission - Types of presentation

Abstract Submission System (opens in a new window)

Abstracts can be submitted for the following three types of presentations:

Abstracts are limited to 250 words plain text, i.e., they may not include tables and figures. All submissions must be in English.

Symposia:

Symposia usually consist of four to five papers (minimum is 3, maximum is 5; alternatively 4 papers plus discussant). Contributions should stem from different research groups. Symposia which include contributions from at least two different countries will be preferred. The chair of a symposium is supposed to organise a group of researchers. The chair submits an integrative abstract (up to 250 words) delineating the topic, summarizing conceptual issues, and integrating the findings of the participating papers.
After the symposium has been assigned an ID-number by the electronic system, the chair of the symposium can submit the individual abstracts (each up to 250 words). Submissions should include:

Individual posters:

Posters will be the favourite format for free-standing research presentations. Posters are recommended when the contribution is strongly data-based and therefore particularly suited for graphic or visual presentation. Individual posters will also be grouped into thematically more or less homogeneous poster sessions by the Scientific Committee. Submissions should include a 250 word abstract with name, affiliation and contact details of first author and any co-author.

Poster workshops:

Poster workshops are similar to symposia. They consist of up to 6 posters organised around a central topic. Poster workshops should be organized by two co-chairs (preferably from different countries) and should include a discussant. Submissions should include:

The chairs should submit an integrative abstract. Afterwards, the individual contributions can be submitted by the chair. Part of the scheduled time for a poster workshop is used to view posters and speak with presenters individually. The rest of the time follows the usual symposium format with a discussion of the findings.

Multiple submissions:

Please be aware of the fact that one person can only submit two abstracts with him or her being the first author. This rule generally applies irrespective of the type of abstract. For example, you may submit a symposium and have a talk within this symposium. Alternatively, you could submit a symposium without contributing a talk to it, but have a poster in one of the poster sessions etc. However, roles as discussants or members of a round table are not subject to this rule.
